Project background

One system, every department

Eatery was built to be a genuinely complete operating system for a restaurant — not just a billing tool with a menu bolted on. Front-of-house, kitchen, delivery and management all work off the same live data, instead of four disconnected tools that someone has to reconcile by hand at the end of the night.

It drastically cuts manual effort and makes communication between departments seamless — an integrated system that works across web, Android and iOS, with different permission levels for owners, waitstaff, kitchen staff and delivery riders all working from the same source of truth.

Challenges & solutions

Where it got hard

Challenge

One app, four very different jobs

A waiter, a kitchen cook, a delivery rider and an owner all needed the same underlying data, but completely different screens, permission levels and even devices.

Solution

Role-based views over a shared data model

One Spring Boot backend, four lightweight Cordova front-ends — each scoped down by role at the API layer, so a delivery rider's app simply never receives kitchen-side data.

Challenge

Kitchen tickets can't be allowed to fail silently

If an order ticket doesn't reach the kitchen printer during a dinner rush, that's a lost order and an angry table — not a bug report filed later.

Solution

Print confirmation with automatic retry

Every KOT print job waits for a hardware acknowledgment; if it doesn't get one within a few seconds, it retries and flags the waiter's screen instead of failing quietly.

Challenge

Inventory had to reflect reality, not just sales

Restaurants don't only lose stock through sales — spillage, complimentary dishes and prep waste all needed to be accounted for, or the numbers would slowly drift from what was actually on the shelf.

Solution

Manual adjustment log tied to recipes

We built recipe-level stock deduction plus a quick manual-adjustment flow with a reason code, so owners get an honest inventory number instead of one that only matches sales data.
